Separate lamp cord (also known as zip cord) before stripping. Poke the tip of a utility knife between the two wires. Pull the cord to split it.
Strip the wire ends. With your fingers twist the exposed strands clockwise until tight.
Do not attempt to splice cord wire using lineman's pliers; it's too easy to break the strands. Instead twist the wires together clockwise by hand and add a wire nut.
