Electrical Testing Tools
A voltage detector senses the presence of power inside cables and in some cases even inside walls. Before using it, test this battery-powered tool on a line you know to be live. If the end glows, the tester is functioning.
Continuity TesterA continuity tester shows when there is a path for current flow. Use it to test a fuse, a switch, or the wiring in a lamp or light fixture. Use it only when the power is off. If the tester lights, there is a path for current flow.
MultitesterA multitester does the work of both a voltage tester and a continuity tester. Use it also to test low-voltage wiring such as a door chime. A tester with digital readout is easier to use than one with a meter.
